Copper mine supply may be headed for its first annual decline since 2017. Global output already fell 1.1% in the first half, per the International Copper Study Group. Codelco and Freeport-McMoRan both posted double-digit declines. Escondida, the world's largest copper mine, saw its own output fall 3% in FY2026 as ore grades dropped from 1.02% to 0.90%, according to BHP. S&P Global projects copper demand will grow 50% by 2040. Supply isn't on pace to match
