Investing.com -- The Indian equity benchmark indices bled in today’s session, crashing for the fourth consecutive day on Monday. Today marked the worst day on Dalal Street since April 19, as BSE Sensex 30 and Nifty50 both slid almost 2%.

While all the sectors performed poorly, shares of oil and gas, financial, automobile and IT stocks tumbled the most. A total of nearly Rs 7.86 lakh crore was lost by investors in equity wealth on Monday.

While the BSE Sensex fell 1,170.1 points or 1.96% to close at 1,170.12, NSE Nifty50 slid 348.25 points or 1.96% to end at 17,416.55. With today’s plummeting performance, Sensex is now 6.1% lower compared to its all-time high on October 19, while Nifty50 by 6.4%.

Foreign brokerage houses like Macquarie had earlier this month warned investors of the Indian equity market, as it turned cautious towards the country’s stretched valuations and risk of earnings downgrade from a one-year perspective. It had advised foreign investors to book profits.

Factors like the repeal of the agriculture laws, scraping off of Reliance Industries (NS: RELI ) and Saudi Aramco (SE: 2222 )’s deal, the impact of inflation on-demand across different sectors, along with recent increasing cases of Covid-19 globally, aided the performance of the Indian benchmark indices on Monday.
