Why Is Maruti Suzuki Bent on Adding 4 New CNG Vehicles?

By Malvika Gurung

Investing.com -- Indian automaker Maruti Suzuki (NS: MRTI ) has announced adding four new models under its CNG portfolio in the near future, as a result of escalating petrol and diesel prices backed on rising fuel prices globally.

Maruti Suzuki currently has about 2.8 lakh pending orders in India, due to shortages in the supply of semiconductor chips globally, of which 1.1 lakh orders are for the automaker’s CNG units.

The Senior Executive Director of Maruti Suzuki India , Shashank Srivastava stated that the demand for CNG vehicles is increasing amid the Indian customers, due to rising fuel prices. While the price of running petrol or a diesel vehicle has become almost Rs 5/km, the range still hovers around Rs 1.7/km for a CNG vehicle.

Additionally, the number of CNG filling outlets has dramatically increased over the years and stands at approximately 3,400 engulfing about 260 cities, contributing to the demand switch amid huge numbers of customers towards CNG vehicles.

Maruti Suzuki currently has 8 CNG models running across the Indian market, out of 14 total models. It has confirmed to add four new CNG vehicles shortly.
