U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 3.37%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities , Mobile Telecommunications and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 3.37% to hit a new 52-week low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON: RR ), which rose 3.23% or 19.40 points to trade at 620.00 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON: CCL ) added 1.58% or 38.0 points to end at 2435.0 and BT Group PLC (LON: BT ) was up 1.52% or 2.12 points to 141.62 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON: FRES ), which lost 11.88% or 81.40 points to trade at 603.80 in late trade. Tui AG (LON: TUIT ) declined 8.51% or 55.80 points to end at 600.00 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON: ICAG ) shed 8.42% or 43.40 points to 472.00.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2032 to 289 and 100 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 3.91% or 64.15 to $1578.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 5.25% or 2.47 to hit $44.62 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 3.81% or 1.97 to trade at $49.76 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 1.00% to 1.2755, while EUR/GBP rose 1.05% to 0.8624.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 98.373.
