U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 1.65%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Household Goods & Home Construction , Life Insurance/Assurance and General Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.65%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON: EZJ ), which rose 1.33% or 12.00 points to trade at 917.00 at the close. BAE Systems PLC (LON: BAES ) added 0.76% or 4.00 points to end at 533.00 and Croda International PLC (LON: CRDA ) was up 0.66% or 50.0 points to 7646.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON: ICP ), which lost 5.05% or 110.00 points to trade at 2070.00 in late trade. B&M European Value Retail SA (LON: BMEB ) declined 5.02% or 29.00 points to end at 548.60 and Persimmon PLC (LON: PSN ) shed 4.79% or 147.0 points to 2923.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1744 to 477 and 187 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.20% or 3.65 to $1798.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.80% or 0.58 to hit $72.78 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.78% or 0.57 to trade at $74.00 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.23% to 1.3768, while EUR/GBP rose 0.67% to 0.8598.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 92.425.
