U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 1.54%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution , Travel & Leisure and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.54% to hit a new 3-year low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON: BT ), which rose 2.59% or 3.10 points to trade at 122.64 at the close. Schroders PLC (LON: SDR ) added 2.46% or 58.0 points to end at 2419.0 and Surgutneftegaz L (LON: SNGSyq ) was up 1.94% or 0.08 points to 4.31 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Coca Cola HBC AG (LON: CCH ), which lost 8.39% or 181.5 points to trade at 1981.5 in late trade. EasyJet PLC (LON: EZJ ) declined 7.59% or 76.00 points to end at 925.00 and Smiths Group PLC (LON: SMIN ) shed 5.71% or 71.50 points to 1180.00.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1548 to 622 and 140 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.01% or 16.75 to $1643.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 3.29% or 1.13 to hit $33.23 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 3.30% or 1.23 to trade at $35.99 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.46% to 1.2847, while EUR/GBP rose 0.54% to 0.8784.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 96.468.
