U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.38%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts , Insurance and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.38%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Associated British Foods PLC (LON: ABF ), which rose 7.99% or 148.5 points to trade at 2007.0 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON: RR ) added 3.60% or 5.10 points to end at 146.86 and BT Group PLC (LON: BT ) was up 2.65% or 4.20 points to 162.65 in late trade.

Biggest losers included DCC plc (LON: DCC ), which lost 3.88% or 244.0 points to trade at 6042.0 in late trade. EasyJet PLC (LON: EZJ ) declined 3.08% or 20.00 points to end at 630.40 and Smiths Group PLC (LON: SMIN ) shed 2.67% or 38.50 points to 1403.50.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1178 to 843 and 451 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.18% or 3.30 to $1831.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.14% or 0.93 to hit $82.86 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.49 to trade at $83.92 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.05% to 1.3554, while EUR/GBP rose 0.11% to 0.8552.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 93.993.
