U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.20%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Banking , Fixed Line Telecommunications and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.20%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON: OCDO ), which rose 6.78% or 42.20 points to trade at 664.80 at the close. Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON: ICP ) added 6.24% or 74.50 points to end at 1,268.00 and Schroders PLC (LON: SDR ) was up 4.75% or 21.00 points to 463.40 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON: RR ), which lost 4.39% or 3.99 points to trade at 86.93 in late trade. Standard Chartered PLC (LON: STAN ) declined 3.66% or 22.60 points to end at 594.80 and Anglo American PLC (LON: AAL ) shed 3.11% or 106.00 points to 3,301.50.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1120 to 699 and 494 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 3.11% or 54.80 to $1,814.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.70% or 1.37 to hit $81.92 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.93% or 0.81 to trade at $87.78 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 1.76% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP fell 0.70% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.10% at 104.73.
