U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.16%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Beverage , Fixed Line Telecommunications and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.16%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smith & Nephew PLC (LON: SN ), which rose 3.31% or 39.50 points to trade at 1,234.00 at the close. Ferguson Plc (LON: FERG ) added 2.30% or 230.00 points to end at 10,250.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON: RR ) was up 2.22% or 2.07 points to 95.50 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON: ICP ), which lost 4.55% or 77.00 points to trade at 1,614.50 in late trade. ITV PLC (LON: ITV ) declined 3.61% or 2.78 points to end at 74.24 and Informa PLC (LON: INF ) shed 3.37% or 20.80 points to 597.40.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1095 to 812 and 462 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.36% or 26.95 to $1,959.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 4.95% or 5.33 to hit $102.28 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 5.08% or 5.75 to trade at $107.41 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.21% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 100.88.
