U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.11%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts , Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Beverage sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.11%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Vodafone Group PLC (LON: VOD ), which rose 6.12% or 7.79 points to trade at 135.17 at the close. Aviva PLC (LON: AV ) added 3.97% or 13.68 points to end at 357.98 and Carnival PLC (LON: CCL ) was up 2.70% or 33.5 points to 1272.5 in late trade.

Biggest losers included GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON: GSK ), which lost 5.41% or 74.00 points to trade at 1294.00 in late trade. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON: RR ) declined 2.95% or 2.80 points to end at 91.96 and Sberbank Of Russia (LON: SBNCyq ) shed 2.95% or 0.42 points to 13.80.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1327 to 984 and 84 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.13% or 2.40 to $1835.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.17% or 1.19 to hit $55.95 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.26% or 0.73 to trade at $58.53 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.11% to 1.3650, while EUR/GBP fell 0.05% to 0.8805.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 91.177.
