Investing.com – United States equities were mixed at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Dow Jones Technology, Dow Jones Consumer Services and Dow Jones Health Care sectors led shares higher while losses in the Dow Jones Utilities, Dow Jones Oil & Gas and Dow Jones Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.36%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.16%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.81%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 1.74% or 5.12 points to trade at 298.89 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 1.52% or 2.29 points to end at 152.98 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) was up 1.30% or 2.44 points to 190.83 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD), which fell 1.94% or 7.82 points to trade at 395.07 in late trade. Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) declined 1.66% or 1.11 points to end at 65.56 and Travelers Companies (NYSE:TRV) down 1.47% or 3.70 points to 248.67.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Cadence Design Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CDNS) which rose 12.53% to 284.45, Incyte Corporation (NASDAQ:INCY) which was up 12.04% to settle at 73.60 and F5 Networks Inc (NASDAQ:FFIV) which gained 10.06% to close at 240.33.
The worst performers were Stanley Black & Decker Inc (NYSE:SWK) which was down 8.77% to 93.89 in late trade, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) which lost 8.49% to settle at 10.41 and DR Horton Inc (NYSE:DHI) which was down 7.24% to 167.32 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were GlycoMimetics Inc (NASDAQ:GLYC) which rose 191.32% to 0.49, BIO-Key International Inc (NASDAQ:BKYI) which was up 76.81% to settle at 1.22 and JLong Group Ltd (NASDAQ:JL) which gained 65.61% to close at 0.78.
The worst performers were Hanryu Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:HRYU) which was down 50.32% to 0.25 in late trade, Digital Brands Group Inc (NASDAQ:DBGI) which lost 33.83% to settle at 0.10 and Lilium NV (NASDAQ:LILM) which was down 30.94% to 0.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 1897 to 920 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1819 fell and 1489 advanced, while 106 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
Shares in Incyte Corporation (NASDAQ:INCY) rose to 52-week highs; up 12.04% or 7.91 to 73.60. Shares in F5 Networks Inc (NASDAQ:FFIV) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 10.06% or 21.97 to 240.33. Shares in Digital Brands Group Inc (NASDAQ:DBGI) fell to 3-year lows; losing 33.83% or 0.05 to 0.10. Shares in Lilium NV (NASDAQ:LILM) fell to 3-year lows; down 30.94% or 0.04 to 0.10.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.32% to 19.34.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.04% or 28.65 to $2,784.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.06% or 0.04 to hit $67.42 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $70.98 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.06% to 153.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 104.16.
