Investing.com – United States equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Dow Jones Consumer Services, Dow Jones Consumer Goods and Dow Jones Technology sectors led shares higher while losses in the Dow Jones Oil & Gas, Dow Jones Utilities and Dow Jones Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.28%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.25%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.78%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), which rose 2.94% or 6.48 points to trade at 227.03 at the close. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) added 1.40% or 3.29 points to end at 238.04 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was up 1.15% or 3.45 points to 303.98 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH), which fell 5.07% or 29.35 points to trade at 549.62 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 2.57% or 4.09 points to end at 155.24 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) down 1.80% or 2.62 points to 142.45.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Lululemon Athletica Inc (NASDAQ:LULU) which rose 15.89% to 399.60, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (NYSE:HPE) which was up 10.67% to settle at 23.96 and Ulta Beauty Inc (NASDAQ:ULTA) which gained 8.99% to close at 428.17.
The worst performers were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) which was down 5.07% to 549.62 in late trade, Cooper Companies Inc (NASDAQ:COO) which lost 4.39% to settle at 98.70 and Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL) which was down 4.15% to 28.78 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Universe Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:UPC) which rose 222.86% to 3.39, MSP Recovery Inc (NASDAQ:LIFW) which was up 103.77% to settle at 3.24 and GaxosAI Inc (NASDAQ:GXAI) which gained 81.70% to close at 2.58.
The worst performers were Oriental Rise Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:ORIS) which was down 93.54% to 3.62 in late trade, Lichen China Ltd (NASDAQ:LICN) which lost 76.93% to settle at 0.49 and Mynaric AG ADR (NASDAQ:MYNA) which was down 64.54% to 0.50 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 1511 to 1293 and 86 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2007 rose and 1296 declined, while 124 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
Shares in Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (NYSE:HPE) rose to 5-year highs; up 10.67% or 2.31 to 23.96. Shares in Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) rose to all time highs; gaining 2.94% or 6.48 to 227.03. Shares in International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) rose to all time highs; gaining 1.40% or 3.29 to 238.04. Shares in Oriental Rise Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:ORIS) fell to all time lows; down 93.54% or 52.39 to 3.62. Shares in Lichen China Ltd (NASDAQ:LICN) fell to all time lows; falling 76.93% or 1.63 to 0.49. Shares in Mynaric AG ADR (NASDAQ:MYNA) fell to all time lows; down 64.54% or 0.91 to 0.50.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.69% to 12.77 a new 3-month low.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.20% or 5.41 to $2,653.81 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.64% or 1.12 to hit $67.18 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.46% or 1.05 to trade at $71.04 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.19% to 1.06, while USD/JPY fell 0.06% to 149.99.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 105.96.
