Investing.com – United States equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Dow Jones Utilities, Dow Jones Telecommunications and Dow Jones Health Care sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.67%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.33%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 1.30% or 3.82 points to trade at 298.54 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 0.72% or 2.85 points to end at 395.44 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 0.45% or 0.70 points to 155.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which fell 3.08% or 0.72 points to trade at 22.49 in late trade. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) declined 2.31% or 1.13 points to end at 47.84 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) down 1.81% or 10.29 points to 557.28.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were The Mosaic Company (NYSE:MOS) which rose 5.65% to 28.41, First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which was up 4.79% to settle at 214.76 and Sherwin-Williams Co (NYSE:SHW) which gained 4.16% to close at 372.86.
The worst performers were Constellation Energy Corp (NASDAQ:CEG) which was down 12.31% to 226.33 in late trade, Public Service Enterprise Group Inc (NYSE:PEG) which lost 6.93% to settle at 81.26 and Zoetis Inc (NYSE:ZTS) which was down 3.73% to 175.16 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Simpple Ltd (NASDAQ:SPPL) which rose 247.25% to 1.11, Nuwellis Inc (NASDAQ:NUWE) which was up 101.47% to settle at 2.74 and Staffing 360 Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:STAF) which gained 73.84% to close at 2.99.
The worst performers were E. W. Scripps Co Class A (NASDAQ:SSP) which was down 35.94% to 2.26 in late trade, GlucoTrack Inc (NASDAQ:GCTK) which lost 35.03% to settle at 1.15 and Triller Group Inc (NASDAQ:ILLR) which was down 31.60% to 2.93 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 1560 to 1231 and 53 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1681 fell and 1600 advanced, while 72 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
Shares in Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.31% or 1.13 to 47.84.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.87% to 22.29.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.10% or 2.75 to $2,746.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 3.12% or 2.17 to hit $71.66 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.95% or 2.16 to trade at $75.26 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.40% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.55% to 152.15.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 103.80.
