Investing.com – United Kingdom equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the FTSE 350 Mining, FTSE 350 Tobacco and FTSE 350 Nonlife Insurance sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.19% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 4.73% or 48.00 points to trade at 1,063.00 at the close. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) added 3.42% or 9.00 points to end at 272.40 and Entain PLC (LON:ENT) was up 2.38% or 16.00 points to 687.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS), which fell 4.66% or 17.60 points to trade at 360.20 in late trade. Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON:SWR) declined 3.91% or 120.00 points to end at 2,953.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) down 3.09% or 66.00 points to 2,070.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 1034 to 763 and 553 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
Shares in Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) rose to 3-year highs; gaining 4.73% or 48.00 to 1,063.00.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 2.50% or 83.04 to $3,405.34 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 4.34% or 2.48 to hit $59.61 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.93% or 2.37 to trade at $62.60 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.44% to 1.34, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.31% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 99.36.
