Investing.com – United Kingdom equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the FTSE 350 Tobacco, FTSE 350 Pharmaceuticals & Biotechnology and FTSE 350 Food Producers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.60% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which rose 3.58% or 110.00 points to trade at 3,187.00 at the close. B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) added 2.50% or 8.40 points to end at 344.30 and GSK plc (LON:GSK) was up 2.35% or 32.00 points to 1,394.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which fell 3.59% or 77.00 points to trade at 2,066.00 in late trade. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) declined 2.15% or 10.20 points to end at 465.40 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) down 1.89% or 35.00 points to 1,821.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 1096 to 671 and 583 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.28% or 41.21 to $3,185.39 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.49% or 0.92 to hit $62.54 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.33% or 0.86 to trade at $65.39 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.39% to 1.33, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.08% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 101.07.
