Investing.com – United Kingdom equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the FTSE 350 Aerospace & Defense, FTSE 350 Media and FTSE 350 Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES), which rose 3.12% or 36.00 points to trade at 1,190.00 at the close. Pershing Square Holdings Ltd (LON:PSHP) added 2.44% or 98.00 points to end at 4,116.00 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) was up 2.08% or 20.50 points to 1,007.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Barratt Redrow PLC (LON:BTRW), which fell 5.07% or 21.30 points to trade at 398.70 in late trade. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) declined 4.91% or 50.30 points to end at 974.20 and JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD) down 3.90% or 3.96 points to 97.54.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 1209 to 604 and 593 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
Shares in Barratt Redrow PLC (LON:BTRW) fell to 52-week lows; falling 5.07% or 21.30 to 398.70. Shares in Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 2.08% or 20.50 to 1,007.50.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.77% or 20.56 to $2,685.96 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.24% or 0.92 to hit $73.33 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.18% or 0.91 to trade at $76.14 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.97% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP rose 0.64% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.51% at 108.93.
