U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.08%

Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications , Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.08%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON: OCDO ), which rose 3.60% or 42.00 points to trade at 1208.00 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON: MKS ) added 2.17% or 4.25 points to end at 200.20 and St. James’s Place PLC (LON: SJP ) was up 1.96% or 21.50 points to 1119.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Vodafone Group PLC (LON: VOD ), which lost 3.91% or 6.28 points to trade at 154.16 in late trade. Micro Focus International PLC (LON: MCRO ) declined 2.96% or 34.00 points to end at 1114.40 and National Grid PLC (LON: NG ) shed 2.87% or 26.50 points to 896.00.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1099 to 995 and 220 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.09% or 1.30 to $1462.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.15% or 0.09 to hit $58.20 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.51% or 0.32 to trade at $63.33 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.10% to 1.2909, while EUR/GBP rose 0.21% to 0.8528.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 98.295.
