Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.64%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Mining , Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Steel sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.64%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were NEC Corp. (T: 6701 ), which rose 3.59% or 10.0 points to trade at 288.5 at the close. DOWA Holdings Co., Ltd. (T: 5714 ) added 2.92% or 23.0 points to end at 812.0 and Furukawa Co., Ltd. (T: 5715 ) was up 2.59% or 5.0 points to 198.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Unitika, Ltd. (T: 3103 ), which lost 3.66% or 3.0 points to trade at 79.0 in late trade. Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T: 5202 ) declined 3.03% or 27.0 points to end at 865.0 and Ube Industries, Ltd. (T: 4208 ) shed 2.93% or 8.0 points to 265.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2172 to 860 and 330 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.70% to 14.80.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.47% or 0.23 to $49.13 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.60% or 0.31 to hit $51.77 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.52% or 6.50 to trade at $1262.90 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.62% to 111.14, while EUR/JPY fell 0.48% to 124.75.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 97.01.
