Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.60%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Shipbuilding , Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Paper & Pulp sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.60%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Denso Corp. (T: 6902 ), which rose 5.25% or 256.0 points to trade at 5133.0 at the close. Toyota Tsusho Corp. (T: 8015 ) added 4.68% or 155.0 points to end at 3465.0 and Nisshin Steel Holdings Co., Ltd. (T: 5413 ) was up 3.38% or 44.0 points to 1344.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Toshiba Corp. (T: 6502 ), which lost 13.46% or 36.1 points to trade at 232.2 in late trade. Tokyo Electron Ltd. (T: 8035 ) declined 7.15% or 1210.0 points to end at 15705.0 and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T: 7735 ) shed 6.34% or 500.0 points to 7385.1.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2029 to 1178 and 254 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.04% to 12.48.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.02% or 0.01 to $49.03 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.45% or 0.23 to hit $51.72 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.01% or 0.10 to trade at $1259.90 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.05% to 111.19, while EUR/JPY rose 0.21% to 130.15.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 93.60.
