Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.53%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding , Real Estate and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.53%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (T: 4005 ), which rose 3.22% or 19.5 points to trade at 624.5 at the close. Tokyo Electron Ltd. (T: 8035 ) added 2.58% or 395.0 points to end at 15690.0 and Amada Co., Ltd. (T: 6113 ) was up 2.46% or 33.0 points to 1374.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co. (T: 8750 ), which lost 3.96% or 76.5 points to trade at 1856.8 in late trade. Pioneer Corp. (T: 6773 ) declined 3.81% or 8.0 points to end at 202.0 and Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T: 4506 ) shed 3.63% or 66.0 points to 1751.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1927 to 1128 and 311 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.90% to 14.92.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was down 0.55% or 0.27 to $48.39 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.39% or 0.20 to hit $51.45 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.58% or 7.13 to trade at $1243.53 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.58% to 112.45, while EUR/JPY fell 0.50% to 124.73.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 97.95.
