Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.77%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Gas & Water , Shipbuilding and Machinery sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.77%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Shimizu Corp. (T: 1803 ), which rose 1.99% or 22.0 points to trade at 1130.0 at the close. Kubota Corp. (T: 6326 ) added 1.81% or 32.0 points to end at 1800.0 and Ricoh Co., Ltd. (T: 7752 ) was up 1.51% or 15.0 points to 1010.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T: 5301 ), which lost 7.50% or 153.0 points to trade at 1888.0 in late trade. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T: 6976 ) declined 6.16% or 185.0 points to end at 2820.0 and Kuraray Co., Ltd. (T: 3405 ) shed 4.48% or 73.0 points to 1555.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2932 to 505 and 137 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 8.27% to 16.24.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 1.48% or 0.97 to $64.72 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.90% or 0.68 to hit $74.66 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.23% or 2.90 to trade at $1283.00 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.78% to 109.69, while EUR/JPY fell 1.37% to 126.74.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 94.76.
