Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.52%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding , Paper & Pulp and Finance & Investment sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.52% to hit a new 1-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (T: 3099 ), which rose 1.82% or 24.0 points to trade at 1346.0 at the close. Showa Denko K.K. (T: 4004 ) added 1.22% or 55.0 points to end at 4550.0 and Softbank Corp. (T: 9984 ) was up 0.71% or 54.5 points to 7747.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Ube Industries, Ltd. (T: 4208 ), which lost 4.80% or 160.0 points to trade at 3170.0 in late trade. Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. (T: 5802 ) declined 3.73% or 63.5 points to end at 1641.0 and Tosoh Corp. (T: 4042 ) shed 3.66% or 71.0 points to 1871.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2762 to 634 and 162 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 6.96% to 15.99.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.07% or 0.05 to $66.78 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.05% or 0.04 to hit $75.45 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.05% or 0.70 to trade at $1298.30 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.12% to 108.64, while EUR/JPY rose 0.39% to 125.98.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 94.47.
