Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.79%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Shipbuilding , Communication and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.79% to hit a new 1-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were DeNA Co Ltd (T: 2432 ), which rose 14.44% or 255.0 points to trade at 2021.0 at the close. Hitachi Zosen Corp. (T: 7004 ) added 8.71% or 29.0 points to end at 362.0 and Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (T: 5541 ) was up 7.03% or 144.0 points to 2192.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tosoh Corp. (T: 4042 ), which lost 6.62% or 107.0 points to trade at 1510.0 in late trade. Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T: 5707 ) declined 6.57% or 173.0 points to end at 2462.0 and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T: 7735 ) shed 5.18% or 255.0 points to 4665.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2443 to 1109 and 164 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.17% to 23.79 a new 3-month high.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.29% or 0.18 to $61.84 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.78% or 0.55 to hit $71.17 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.28% or 3.65 to trade at $1283.75 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.26% to 109.66, while EUR/JPY fell 0.23% to 123.11.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 97.148.
