Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.65%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic , Shipbuilding and Rubber sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.65%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Maruha Nichiro Corp (T: 1333 ), which rose 2.14% or 80.0 points to trade at 3820.0 at the close. Sumitomo Realty & Development Co. (T: 8830 ) added 1.90% or 81.0 points to end at 4346.0 and Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T: 1332 ) was up 1.81% or 14.0 points to 789.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included SUMCO Corp. (T: 3436 ), which lost 6.16% or 86.0 points to trade at 1309.0 in late trade. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T: 6976 ) declined 5.70% or 136.0 points to end at 2248.0 and NTN Corp. (T: 6472 ) shed 5.13% or 18.0 points to 333.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2576 to 936 and 170 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.15% to 16.73.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for April delivery was up 0.14% or 0.08 to $56.30 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May rose 0.39% or 0.26 to hit $66.25 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.13% or 1.65 to trade at $1285.95 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.00% to 111.75, while EUR/JPY rose 0.05% to 126.39.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 96.820.
