Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.61%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp , Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.61%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were The Kansai Electric Power Co. (T: 9503 ), which rose 2.47% or 30.0 points to trade at 1243.5 at the close. Sekisui House, Ltd. (T: 1928 ) added 1.77% or 38.5 points to end at 2209.0 and Comsys Holdings Corp. (T: 1721 ) was up 1.65% or 50.0 points to 3075.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Dentsu Inc. (T: 4324 ), which lost 3.57% or 135.0 points to trade at 3645.0 in late trade. SUMCO Corp. (T: 3436 ) declined 3.42% or 51.0 points to end at 1442.0 and Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T: 7003 ) shed 3.04% or 29.0 points to 925.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1679 to 1678 and 254 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 17.02.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was down 0.15% or 0.08 to $52.55 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December fell 0.14% or 0.08 to hit $58.16 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.73% or 10.95 to trade at $1514.85 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.11% to 107.19, while EUR/JPY rose 0.34% to 117.68.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 98.692.
