Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.60%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Gas & Water , Warehousing and Power sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.60%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were IHI Corp. (T: 7013 ), which rose 2.72% or 90.0 points to trade at 3395.0 at the close. Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T: 5233 ) added 2.08% or 75.0 points to end at 3675.0 and Ricoh Co., Ltd. (T: 7752 ) was up 2.02% or 23.0 points to 1164.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T: 9501 ), which lost 3.86% or 29.0 points to trade at 722.0 in late trade. Toyo Seikan Group Holdings, Ltd. (T: 5901 ) declined 3.67% or 93.0 points to end at 2441.0 and Toho Co., Ltd. (T: 9602 ) shed 3.52% or 140.0 points to 3840.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2212 to 1289 and 201 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.31% to 19.54 a new 1-month low.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was down 1.77% or 0.95 to $52.74 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 1.72% or 1.06 to hit $60.53 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.13% or 1.75 to trade at $1299.85 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.13% to 109.39, while EUR/JPY fell 0.22% to 124.66.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 95.572.
