Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.51%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Chemical , Communication and Trading sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.51%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Takara Holdings Inc. (T: 2531 ), which rose 16.14% or 180.0 points to trade at 1295.0 at the close. Tokyo Dome Corp. (T: 9681 ) added 3.93% or 37.0 points to end at 978.0 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T: 5707 ) was up 3.03% or 110.0 points to 3740.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Furukawa Co., Ltd. (T: 5715 ), which lost 9.48% or 161.0 points to trade at 1538.0 in late trade. SUMCO Corp. (T: 3436 ) declined 5.20% or 99.0 points to end at 1806.0 and Konami Corp. (T: 9766 ) shed 4.22% or 195.0 points to 4425.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2535 to 860 and 193 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 7.79% to 16.47.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was down 0.16% or 0.11 to $68.61 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $77.27 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.52% or 6.20 to trade at $1207.50 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.18% to 111.33, while EUR/JPY fell 0.17% to 129.50.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 95.06.
