Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.39%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Construction , Precision Instruments and Transport sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.39%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T: 5301 ), which rose 7.49% or 117.0 points to trade at 1680.0 at the close. GS Yuasa Corp. (T: 6674 ) added 4.99% or 29.0 points to end at 610.0 and Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T: 9064 ) was up 3.73% or 89.0 points to 2473.5 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tokuyama Corp. (T: 4043 ), which lost 6.51% or 255.0 points to trade at 3660.0 in late trade. SUMCO Corp. (T: 3436 ) declined 3.36% or 103.0 points to end at 2967.0 and Advantest Corp. (T: 6857 ) shed 3.02% or 68.0 points to 2187.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1695 to 1683 and 207 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.81% to 16.17.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.14% or 0.09 to $63.48 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 0.20% or 0.14 to hit $69.06 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.21% or 2.80 to trade at $1316.50 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.36% to 111.84, while EUR/JPY rose 0.23% to 133.44.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 92.29.
