Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp, Transport and Communication sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Marubeni Corp. (TYO:8002), which rose 6.39% or 162.00 points to trade at 2,698.00 at the close. Japan Airlines Co Ltd (TYO:9201) added 5.25% or 138.00 points to end at 2,767.50 and Sompo Holdings Inc (TYO:8630) was up 4.75% or 215.00 points to 4,745.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO:4523), which fell 4.80% or 205.00 points to trade at 4,066.00 in late trade. Kyowa Kirin Co Ltd (TYO:4151) declined 4.54% or 99.50 points to end at 2,091.50 and Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) down 4.46% or 42.00 points to 899.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 2317 to 1305 and 241 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Shares in Japan Airlines Co Ltd (TYO:9201) rose to 52-week highs; up 5.25% or 138.00 to 2,767.50.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.87% to 26.74.
Crude oil for June delivery was up 1.47% or 0.87 to $59.96 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 1.26% or 0.78 to hit $62.93 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.76% or 26.09 to trade at $3,396.71 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.36% to 143.06, while EUR/JPY rose 0.30% to 162.56.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 99.22.
