Japan shares lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.14%

Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding , Transportation Equipment and Services sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.14%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toshiba Corp. (T: 6502 ), which rose 5.15% or 16.0 points to trade at 326.5 at the close. Tokuyama Corp. (T: 4043 ) added 3.44% or 16.0 points to end at 481.0 and Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T: 5301 ) was up 3.38% or 26.0 points to 796.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Meidensha Corp. (T: 6508 ), which lost 6.84% or 27.0 points to trade at 368.0 in late trade. Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T: 3865 ) declined 6.12% or 44.0 points to end at 675.0 and SUMCO Corp. (T: 3436 ) shed 4.23% or 68.0 points to 1538.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1827 to 1358 and 276 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.26% to 17.09.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.23% or 0.11 to $48.77 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 0.19% or 0.10 to hit $53.48 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.10% or 1.31 to trade at $1343.19 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.08% to 108.72, while EUR/JPY rose 0.14% to 129.82.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 92.13.
