Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 6.72%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Insurance , Steel and Finance & Investment sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 6.72%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were T&D Holdings, Inc. (T: 8795 ), which rose 13.07% or 152.5 points to trade at 1319.5 at the close. Unitika, Ltd. (T: 3103 ) added 12.86% or 9.0 points to end at 79.0 and SUMCO Corp. (T: 3436 ) was up 12.86% or 130.0 points to 1141.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (T: 2269 ), which lost 8.17% or 810.0 points to trade at 9110.0 in late trade. Nichirei Corp. (T: 2871 ) declined 2.86% or 65.0 points to end at 2204.0 and Nippon Meat Packers, Inc. (T: 2282 ) shed 1.07% or 29.0 points to 2679.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 3122 to 135 and 73 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 22.46% to 21.44.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.46% or 0.21 to $45.48 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.80% or 0.37 to hit $46.73 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 1.10% or 14.05 to trade at $1287.55 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.37% to 105.28, while EUR/JPY fell 0.10% to 115.17.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.22% at 98.44.
