Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.41%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Steel , Shipbuilding and Financial Services sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.41%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokuyama Corp. (T: 4043 ), which rose 19.30% or 33.0 points to trade at 204.0 at the close. Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (T: 7211 ) added 15.81% or 78.5 points to end at 575.0 and DeNA Co Ltd (T: 2432 ) was up 12.44% or 226.0 points to 2043.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (T: 9412 ), which lost 11.76% or 72.0 points to trade at 540.0 in late trade. Casio Computer Co., Ltd. (T: 6952 ) declined 11.70% or 227.0 points to end at 1714.0 and Nippon Kayaku Co., Ltd. (T: 4272 ) shed 11.54% or 135.0 points to 1035.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 949 to 926 and 128 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.90% to 25.99.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.11% or 0.05 to $46.28 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.15% or 0.07 to hit $47.67 a barrel, while the June Gold contract fell 0.22% or 2.80 to trade at $1272.70 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.49% to 108.94, while EUR/JPY rose 0.36% to 124.34.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 93.95.
