Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.10%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic , Power and Precision Instruments sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.10%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toho Co., Ltd. (T: 9602 ), which rose 7.35% or 250.0 points to trade at 3650.0 at the close. Tokyo Dome Corp. (T: 9681 ) added 5.15% or 52.0 points to end at 1062.0 and Showa Denko K.K. (T: 4004 ) was up 4.91% or 142.0 points to 3035.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Toshiba Corp. (T: 6502 ), which lost 4.77% or 13.1 points to trade at 261.7 in late trade. Meidensha Corp. (T: 6508 ) declined 4.57% or 18.0 points to end at 376.0 and Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T: 3865 ) shed 4.32% or 36.0 points to 797.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1829 to 1342 and 295 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.65% to 13.47.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.22% or 0.10 to $46.30 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.16% or 0.08 to hit $48.76 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.35% or 4.35 to trade at $1237.55 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.02% to 112.10, while EUR/JPY fell 0.25% to 129.19.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 94.61.
