Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.01%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Rubber , Machinery and Shipbuilding sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.01%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (T: 5214 ), which rose 6.20% or 250.0 points to trade at 4280.0 at the close. Tokyo Electron Ltd. (T: 8035 ) added 3.04% or 475.0 points to end at 16100.0 and ANA Holdings Inc (T: 9202 ) was up 2.75% or 10.6 points to 396.5 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Toshiba Corp. (T: 6502 ), which lost 4.23% or 10.7 points to trade at 242.2 in late trade. Concordia Financial Group Ltd (T: 7186 ) declined 2.66% or 15.1 points to end at 553.3 and Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T: 3865 ) shed 2.48% or 21.0 points to 826.0.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1673 to 1471 and 314 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 4.06% to 13.84.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.70% or 0.32 to $45.17 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.75% or 0.36 to hit $47.38 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.20% or 2.46 to trade at $1221.56 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.10% to 113.03, while EUR/JPY fell 0.12% to 128.98.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 95.47.
