Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.64%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Insurance , Communication and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.64%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Meidensha Corp. (T: 6508 ), which rose 3.88% or 58.0 points to trade at 1552.0 at the close. Softbank Corp. (T: 9984 ) added 3.70% or 326.0 points to end at 9145.0 and The Chiba Bank, Ltd. (T: 8331 ) was up 3.64% or 26.0 points to 740.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Shionogi & Co., Ltd. (T: 4507 ), which lost 5.20% or 399.0 points to trade at 7270.0 in late trade. Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T: 4506 ) declined 4.29% or 123.0 points to end at 2743.0 and Pioneer Corp. (T: 6773 ) shed 3.19% or 3.0 points to 91.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2404 to 1067 and 214 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.54% to 20.40.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was down 1.45% or 0.75 to $50.88 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 1.25% or 0.76 to hit $59.80 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.19% or 2.30 to trade at $1226.40 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was unchanged 0.00% to 113.59, while EUR/JPY fell 0.13% to 128.49.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 97.143.
