Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.62%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic , Shipbuilding and Chemical sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.62%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were The Japan Steel Works, Ltd. (T: 5631 ), which rose 4.20% or 80.0 points to trade at 1983.0 at the close. SUMCO Corp. (T: 3436 ) added 3.91% or 48.0 points to end at 1275.0 and Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (T: 5706 ) was up 3.67% or 97.0 points to 2743.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T: 4506 ), which lost 3.36% or 96.0 points to trade at 2763.0 in late trade. Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T: 3865 ) declined 2.04% or 13.0 points to end at 625.0 and Seven & i Holdings Co., Ltd. (T: 3382 ) shed 1.98% or 92.0 points to 4555.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2660 to 887 and 179 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 5.65% to 16.03 a new 6-month low.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was down 0.09% or 0.05 to $58.77 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May rose 0.18% or 0.12 to hit $67.28 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.03% or 0.35 to trade at $1303.25 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.06% to 111.52, while EUR/JPY rose 0.23% to 126.50.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 95.922.
