Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.46%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Shipbuilding , Machinery and Steel sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.46%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chiyoda Corp. (T: 6366 ), which rose 4.59% or 39.0 points to trade at 889.0 at the close. Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T: 5707 ) added 4.50% or 175.0 points to end at 4065.0 and Showa Denko K.K. (T: 4004 ) was up 4.15% or 210.0 points to 5270.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (T: 7211 ), which lost 3.93% or 36.5 points to trade at 892.5 in late trade. Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (T: 5232 ) declined 2.77% or 15.0 points to end at 526.0 and Konami Corp. (T: 9766 ) shed 2.74% or 150.0 points to 5320.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2160 to 1178 and 249 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 8.41% to 16.66.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.15% or 0.10 to $68.62 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.76% or 0.56 to hit $74.00 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.23% or 2.80 to trade at $1228.30 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.04% to 111.23, while EUR/JPY rose 0.10% to 130.06.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 94.30.
