Japan shares higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.41%

Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp , Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.41%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were The Japan Steel Works, Ltd. (T: 5631 ), which rose 5.56% or 104.0 points to trade at 1973.0 at the close. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T: 6976 ) added 5.52% or 123.0 points to end at 2352.0 and SUMCO Corp. (T: 3436 ) was up 4.53% or 64.0 points to 1478.0 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Haseko Corp (T: 1808 ), which lost 3.75% or 45.00 points to trade at 1155.00 in late trade. Chiyoda Corp. (T: 6366 ) declined 2.80% or 10.0 points to end at 347.0 and Maruha Nichiro Corp (T: 1333 ) shed 2.65% or 85.0 points to 3120.0.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1959 to 1489 and 263 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The Nikkei Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 14.75.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.48% or 0.27 to $57.04 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.31% or 0.20 to hit $64.03 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.17% or 2.35 to trade at $1424.05 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.14% to 108.06, while EUR/JPY fell 0.33% to 120.28.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 97.507.
