Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Metals, Capital Goods and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.49%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (NSE:BJFN), which rose 1.62% or 139.60 points to trade at 8,734.20 at the close. Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NSE:TACN) added 1.60% or 17.15 points to end at 1,088.15 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NSE:HDBK) was up 1.22% or 21.95 points to 1,816.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Steel Ltd (NSE:TISC), which fell 8.42% or 12.93 points to trade at 140.69 in late trade. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC) declined 8.00% or 52.20 points to end at 600.45 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NSE:ONGC) down 7.07% or 17.21 points to 226.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 1.59% to 8,735.00, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was up 1.30% to settle at 1,817.00 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which gained 0.79% to close at 2,264.95.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 8.36% to 140.80 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 5.92% to settle at 615.30 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 4.69% to 3,258.40 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 1903 to 474 and 41 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2685 fell and 1109 advanced, while 131 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
Shares in Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) fell to 52-week lows; down 5.92% or 38.75 to 615.30.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.83% to 13.71.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.37% or 11.61 to $3,133.31 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 6.03% or 4.04 to hit $62.91 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 5.67% or 3.98 to trade at $66.16 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.15% to 85.12, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 94.21.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 101.81.
