Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Capital Goods and Auto sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.33%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NSE:ADEL), which rose 1.35% or 30.95 points to trade at 2,321.75 at the close. Grasim Industries Ltd (NSE:GRAS) added 0.74% or 18.20 points to end at 2,491.45 and Trent Ltd (NSE:TREN) was up 0.61% or 31.60 points to 5,228.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eicher Motors Ltd. (NSE:EICH), which fell 6.80% or 363.00 points to trade at 4,972.35 in late trade. Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NSE:APLH) declined 6.57% or 443.90 points to end at 6,317.35 and Shriram Finance Ltd. (NSE:SHMF) down 3.97% or 22.25 points to 538.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 0.01% to 1,693.00, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 0.18% to settle at 1,875.90 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which lost 0.53% to close at 1,137.20.
The worst performers were Zomato Ltd (BO:ZOMT) which was down 4.91% to 216.00 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 2.84% to settle at 130.20 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 2.70% to 677.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 2183 to 148 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 3326 fell and 512 advanced, while 94 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
Shares in Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.70% or 18.80 to 677.00.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.53% to 14.95.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.00% or 0.11 to $2,934.29 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.37% or 0.99 to hit $73.31 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.38% or 1.05 to trade at $76.92 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.73% to 86.83, while EUR/INR fell 0.60% to 89.61.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 108.15.
