Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Auto, Technology and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.18% to hit a new 6-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NSE:BPCL), which rose 3.10% or 7.51 points to trade at 249.92 at the close. State Bank Of India (NSE:SBI) added 2.98% or 20.75 points to end at 716.05 and Bharat Electronics Ltd (NSE:BAJE) was up 2.84% or 7.32 points to 264.71 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bajaj Auto Ltd (NSE:BAJA), which fell 4.95% or 381.50 points to trade at 7,333.30 in late trade. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NSE:HROM) declined 3.19% or 115.90 points to end at 3,514.85 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NSE:BJFS) down 2.62% or 48.25 points to 1,790.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 2.98% to 715.85, Zomato Ltd (BO:ZOMT) which was up 2.23% to settle at 227.00 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which gained 1.04% to close at 3,533.00.
The worst performers were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 2.70% to 1,788.60 in late trade, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which lost 2.40% to settle at 1,535.20 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 1.82% to 2,145.95 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 1377 to 957 and 86 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2135 rose and 1665 declined, while 126 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
Shares in Bajaj Auto Ltd (NSE:BAJA) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.95% or 381.50 to 7,333.30. Shares in Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NSE:HROM) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.19% or 115.90 to 3,514.85. Shares in Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.82% or 39.85 to 2,145.95.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.56% to 13.84.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.81% or 23.61 to $2,924.71 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.85% or 0.58 to hit $67.79 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.14% or 0.82 to trade at $70.80 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.03% to 87.29, while EUR/INR rose 0.22% to 91.73.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 106.25.
