Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.18%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Steel Ltd (NSE:TISC), which rose 4.35% or 5.77 points to trade at 138.31 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NSE:BRTI) added 3.52% or 57.00 points to end at 1,676.75 and JSW Steel Ltd (NSE:JSTL) was up 3.41% or 32.35 points to 980.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NSE:ONGC), which fell 2.83% or 7.25 points to trade at 248.90 in late trade. ITC Ltd (NSE:ITC) declined 2.32% or 10.25 points to end at 430.85 and State Bank Of India (NSE:SBI) down 2.00% or 15.05 points to 737.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 4.26% to 138.20, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 3.56% to settle at 1,677.25 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which gained 2.22% to close at 1,958.00.
The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 2.57% to 430.05 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 2.11% to settle at 736.50 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which was down 1.44% to 1,147.15 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 1560 to 721 and 118 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2304 fell and 1455 advanced, while 139 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
Shares in Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 2.22% or 42.45 to 1,958.00.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.35% to 13.70 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.51% or 14.81 to $2,891.51 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.91% or 0.64 to hit $71.25 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.94% or 0.70 to trade at $74.99 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.19% to 87.42, while EUR/INR fell 0.12% to 90.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 107.60.
