Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.16%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which rose 4.26% or 27.45 points to trade at 671.40 at the close. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) added 3.12% or 46.60 points to end at 1,540.00 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 2.96% or 9.05 points to 315.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS), which fell 2.09% or 33.85 points to trade at 1,585.00 in late trade. Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) declined 1.93% or 114.75 points to end at 5,830.00 and Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) down 1.90% or 23.90 points to 1,233.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 3.01% to 1,538.85, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 2.81% to settle at 393.10 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which gained 2.48% to close at 1,026.20.
The worst performers were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 2.03% to 1,585.00 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which lost 1.70% to settle at 6,617.65 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 1.61% to 2,722.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 1726 to 455 and 18 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2718 rose and 1023 declined, while 100 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
Shares in Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 3.12% or 46.60 to 1,540.00. Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) rose to all time highs; gaining 2.81% or 10.75 to 393.10.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.98% to 11.73 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.31% or 7.40 to $2,414.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.83% or 0.64 to hit $77.60 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.72% or 0.58 to trade at $81.59 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 83.71, while EUR/INR fell 0.07% to 90.79.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 104.13.
