Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Auto sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.11%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which rose 4.28% or 13.55 points to trade at 329.80 at the close. Trent Ltd (NS:TREN) added 2.89% or 181.75 points to end at 6,480.70 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 1.65% or 30.15 points to 1,860.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which fell 8.17% or 226.35 points to trade at 2,543.10 in late trade. Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) declined 5.44% or 312.50 points to end at 5,434.65 and Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) down 3.58% or 265.95 points to 7,155.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 4.33% to 330.10, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was up 1.57% to settle at 1,859.85 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 1.49% to close at 1,865.00.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 8.21% to 2,542.00 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which lost 1.95% to settle at 6,765.00 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.94% to 2,921.50 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 1792 to 701 and 152 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2461 fell and 1441 advanced, while 112 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.75% to 14.22.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.68% or 18.20 to $2,676.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.48% or 1.04 to hit $69.34 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.26% or 0.93 to trade at $72.94 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 84.37, while EUR/INR fell 0.34% to 90.15.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.31% at 105.21.
