Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Consumer Durables and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.09% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT), which rose 2.95% or 168.00 points to trade at 5,865.90 at the close. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) added 2.35% or 20.30 points to end at 884.10 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) was up 1.74% or 25.35 points to 1,481.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which fell 4.28% or 30.40 points to trade at 680.50 in late trade. SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) declined 2.43% or 41.85 points to end at 1,680.35 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) down 1.96% or 6.70 points to 335.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which rose 2.32% to 883.60, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was up 1.63% to settle at 1,480.00 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 1.62% to close at 3,585.05.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.44% to 1,444.85 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 1.32% to settle at 2,643.50 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.28% to 800.75 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 1518 to 925 and 31 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2223 fell and 1543 advanced, while 90 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 8.96% to 18.54.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.41% or 10.05 to $2,454.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.51% or 0.37 to hit $73.31 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.41% or 0.31 to trade at $76.61 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.10% to 83.92, while EUR/INR fell 0.51% to 91.53.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 102.94.
