Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Banking, Technology and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.77% to hit a new 3-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 1.96%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NSE:SUN), which rose 3.77% or 63.90 points to trade at 1,757.00 at the close. ICICI Bank Ltd (NSE:ICBK) added 3.73% or 50.60 points to end at 1,407.00 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NSE:BRTI) was up 3.26% or 59.40 points to 1,882.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Wipro Ltd (NSE:WIPR), which fell 4.14% or 10.25 points to trade at 237.40 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NSE:TEML) declined 0.30% or 3.90 points to end at 1,304.80 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NSE:HROM) down 0.26% or 9.90 points to 3,772.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Eternal Ltd (BO:ETEA) which rose 4.48% to 232.00, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 3.63% to settle at 1,406.00 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 3.50% to close at 1,751.95.
The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 0.39% to 1,304.00 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 0.04% to settle at 11,660.00 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was up 0.08% to 2,461.40 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 1444 to 930 and 44 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2297 rose and 1505 declined, while 153 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
Shares in ICICI Bank Ltd (NSE:ICBK) rose to all time highs; up 3.73% or 50.60 to 1,407.00. Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NSE:BRTI) rose to all time highs; rising 3.26% or 59.40 to 1,882.00. Shares in ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) rose to all time highs; rising 3.63% or 49.25 to 1,406.00.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.65% to 15.44.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.21% or 6.89 to $3,339.51 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.25% or 0.78 to hit $63.25 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.02% or 0.67 to trade at $66.52 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.35% to 85.29, while EUR/INR fell 0.53% to 97.07.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 99.28.
