Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Real Estate, Capital Goods and Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.94%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.83%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Shriram Finance Ltd. (NSE:SHMF), which rose 4.41% or 23.40 points to trade at 553.50 at the close. Bharat Electronics Ltd (NSE:BAJE) added 3.47% or 8.95 points to end at 267.20 and Tata Motors Ltd (NSE:TAMO) was up 3.33% or 24.25 points to 752.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NSE:MRTI), which fell 1.20% or 145.85 points to trade at 11,977.90 in late trade. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NSE:BRTI) declined 1.11% or 17.90 points to end at 1,600.45 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NSE:ASPN) down 0.83% or 18.65 points to 2,223.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Zomato Ltd (BO:ZOMT) which rose 6.74% to 222.40, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was up 3.58% to settle at 754.50 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 2.73% to close at 1,879.00.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 1.18% to 11,979.75 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 0.90% to settle at 2,221.10 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 0.85% to 1,605.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 1919 to 375 and 107 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2843 rose and 976 declined, while 93 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.92% to 18.55 a new 3-month high.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.01% or 0.34 to $2,794.26 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.96% or 0.71 to hit $73.06 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.97% or 0.74 to trade at $75.75 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.04% to 86.62, while EUR/INR fell 0.26% to 90.08.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 107.90.
