Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Power, Real Estate and Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.23%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 4.01% or 12.45 points to trade at 322.85 at the close. Trent Ltd (NS:TREN) added 3.89% or 239.75 points to end at 6,400.90 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was up 2.89% or 8.40 points to 298.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which fell 2.93% or 89.50 points to trade at 2,960.00 in late trade. Axis Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) declined 2.49% or 26.15 points to end at 1,025.50 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) down 2.25% or 38.55 points to 1,674.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Zomato Ltd (NS:ZOMT) which rose 5.18% to 245.70, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 3.91% to settle at 323.00 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 3.03% to close at 298.80.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 2.86% to 2,961.55 in late trade, Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 2.28% to settle at 1,025.90 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 2.27% to 1,673.45 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 1215 to 1119 and 36 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2036 rose and 1752 declined, while 105 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.13% to 15.30.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.09% or 29.34 to $2,711.64 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.26% or 0.20 to hit $76.57 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.16% or 0.13 to trade at $80.05 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.19% to 86.36, while EUR/INR fell 0.21% to 89.02.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 108.92.
