Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Auto, Power and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.14%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which rose 5.22% or 61.75 points to trade at 1,243.95 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 1.60% or 46.95 points to end at 2,975.65 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) was up 1.59% or 22.05 points to 1,409.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which fell 0.95% or 21.60 points to trade at 2,262.40 in late trade. Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) declined 0.91% or 30.35 points to end at 3,323.05 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) down 0.80% or 7.40 points to 914.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 1.68% to 2,979.60, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was up 1.49% to settle at 10,895.00 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 1.31% to close at 1,841.50.
The worst performers were Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 1.06% to 3,320.50 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 0.99% to settle at 2,261.60 and JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which was down 0.79% to 915.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 1571 to 919 and 156 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2231 fell and 1564 advanced, while 99 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
Shares in Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) fell to 3-year lows; down 0.95% or 21.60 to 2,262.40. Shares in Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) fell to 3-year lows; down 0.99% or 22.55 to 2,261.60.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.47% to 14.03.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.29% or 7.59 to $2,643.09 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.53% or 0.37 to hit $70.47 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.52% or 0.38 to trade at $73.55 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.20% to 85.27, while EUR/INR unchanged 0.00% to 88.57.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 107.93.
