Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Food & Beverages and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Retail and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.69% to hit a new 3-month high, while the MDAX index fell 0.10%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which rose 6.61% or 7.500 points to trade at 120.900 at the close. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) added 5.12% or 0.800 points to end at 16.440 and Allianz SE VNA O.N. (DE:ALVG) was up 2.61% or 3.950 points to 155.300 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which lost 2.19% or 0.185 points to trade at 8.271 in late trade. Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) declined 1.91% or 0.245 points to end at 12.570 and Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) shed 1.10% or 0.34 points to 30.64.
The top performers on the MDAX were K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) which rose 5.08% to 21.805, Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which was up 3.74% to settle at 47.965 and Aareal Bank AG (DE:ARLG) which gained 2.40% to close at 31.415.
The worst performers were Fielmann AG O.N. (DE:FIEG) which was down 4.83% to 64.570 in late trade, Stroeer SE (DE:SAXG) which lost 2.99% to settle at 53.600 and Axel Springer SE (DE:SPRGn) which was down 1.77% to 49.780 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Drillisch AG O.N. (DE:DRIG) which rose 2.55% to 35.995, Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which was up 2.10% to settle at 44.630 and Freenet AG NA (DE:FNTGn) which gained 1.83% to close at 27.845.
The worst performers were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 4.22% to 48.225 in late trade, Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which lost 2.11% to settle at 4.357 and Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which was down 2.10% to 32.140 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 471 to 404 and 36 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 1.14% to 18.15 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.16% or 2.00 to $1256.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.46% or 0.62 to hit $43.09 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.52% or 0.67 to trade at $44.70 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.23% to 1.1333, while EUR/GBP fell 0.11% to 0.7881.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 94.22.
